Question 1

Is it really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Generating an inbox and receiving mail requires no signup and no payment. Paid plans exist for people who want longer retention, custom addresses, and an API.

Question 2

How long does an inbox last?

Accepted Answer

A new inbox lasts an hour by default and can be extended a limited number of times as a guest. Signed-in accounts on paid plans get significantly longer retention automatically.

Question 3

Can I send email from this address?

Accepted Answer

No — TempMail is receive-only by design. It's built to protect your real inbox, not to replace a full email account.

Question 4

Can I choose my own address?

Accepted Answer

Yes — enter a custom local part when creating an inbox, subject to availability.

Question 5

Do you require a phone number or personal email?

Accepted Answer

No, never, for the free tier or guest use. Creating an optional account only requires an email address you control (which can itself be a TempMail address you've saved).

Question 6

What happens to my messages when the inbox expires?

Accepted Answer

They're permanently deleted, along with any attachments. Nothing is kept after expiry — not archived, not used for analytics.

Question 7

Is message content scanned or read by anyone?

Accepted Answer

Message content isn't read manually as a matter of course. Incoming mail is authenticated using SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, and message HTML is automatically sanitized — scripts, tracking pixels, and unsafe elements are stripped — before it's rendered in your inbox.

Question 8

How is HTML email content made safe to view?

Accepted Answer

Every message is sanitized on arrival (scripts, event handlers, and tracking pixels are stripped) and rendered inside a sandboxed frame as a second, independent layer of protection.

Question 9

Can I keep the same address long-term?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you create a free account and save the inbox — saved inboxes don't expire on their own and are accessible from any device.

Question 10

Can I cancel a paid plan anytime?

Accepted Answer

Yes, from your account's billing page. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period.

Question 11

What happens to saved inboxes if I downgrade?

Accepted Answer

Reserved inboxes over your new plan's limit are locked, not deleted immediately — they stay locked and inaccessible for 30 days, and renewing within that window unlocks them with their messages intact. After 30 days, locked inboxes are permanently deleted.

Question 12

Is there an API?

Accepted Answer

Yes — create inboxes and read messages programmatically. See the API docs for authentication and endpoint details.

Question 13

What are the rate limits?

Accepted Answer

Each plan has a published per-minute request budget, shown on the pricing page. Limits apply per API key.

Question 14

Can I inspect SPF/DKIM/DMARC results?

Accepted Answer

Yes — authentication results are included with every message, both in the UI and via the API.
